Third notice issued to Aroop Biswas in Messi event case, asked to appear within 48 hours
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has directed former RG Kar Medical College Principal Dr. Sandeep Ghosh to demolish an allegedly unauthorized structure at his residence. A notice issued on June 12 instructed him to remove a rooftop pergola within 45 days. The civic body stated that the structure must be removed by July 27, 2026, failing which action will be taken under the provisions of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980.
According to the notice, if the property owner does not comply within the stipulated period, KMC will carry out the demolition itself and recover the associated costs from the owner. The civic body has warned that further legal proceedings may also be initiated in accordance with municipal regulations governing unauthorized construction.
The latest notice follows an earlier order issued on May 20 by KMC Special Officer (Building) Somnath Baral. After conducting a hearing on the matter, the officer had directed the demolition of the unauthorized portion of the building. The June 12 notice was issued to enforce that order. The property is located at 83 Badan Roy Lane in Ward No. 33 under Borough III of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Allegations regarding unauthorized construction at the residence first surfaced in 2024.
The development comes amid broader scrutiny of alleged unauthorized constructions linked to prominent public figures. According to sources, detailed information concerning properties associated with Abhishek Banerjee was submitted to municipal authorities on Friday following a court direction. KMC has reportedly prepared a report identifying portions of the Diamond Harbour MP's Harish Chatterjee Street residence and related properties that may fall under the category of unauthorized construction. Sources indicated that further action, if required, could be considered after the completion of court proceedings.
